Animation Rig -
These are used to help characters and other objects to fly through the air!
They work a little like a crane, suspending the object while the shot is taken. Later on the rig is rubbed out in the animation software. In STOP MOTION PRO, the software making Wallace and Grommit film a "rig removal tool" is used to paint the background photo over the rig.
Explosions, flying objects, using the FORCE and many other special effect can be made possible with rigs.
